What's cool about this is that close to a black hole they might not come back out for a week. So even if the Gorn didn't believe they were destroyed they would surely get sick of waiting.
If I were a starship captain, I would definitely want those officers on the bridge.
The difference between STARSHIP officers.. and officers assigned to other Federation/Starfleet vessels..

You didn't include the scene explaining what the maneuver actually was and why it was cool, that was more impressive than the actual maneuver.

It's been awhile since my physics 102 class but you can calculate time dilation pretty easily. It's just algebra. In class we calculated how much time dilation a satellite would experience around the Earth vs a man standing on top of a skyscraper vs a man on the ground. To get the time dilation they wanted for Interstellar they had to assume a black hole spinning so fast most scientists agreed it would fly itself apart.
There's some equations you can use here, I'm too lazy but you can assume a stellar mass black hole of about 5x the mass of the sun. It probably won't be as much as you think.

Not really, she had a much more powerful vessel with more to work with so i say Pike did it better.

@@Laeadern And all she did was fly in a straight line. Here, they had to calculate the speed and curve precisely. Too tight in or too slow, they get pulled into the black hole. Too shallow a curve and they don't escape the Gorn battlecruiser.
Ortegas deserves a demotion for that god awful haircut just off of principal'/!!!
